• With Deadlindue you can generate a Harvard Reference for a book by just entering it’s ISBN number. But what Exactly is an ISBN number? It is a number that can be found on the back cover of a book right next to the bar code.

For older publications this will be a 10 digit number (it might also be a 9 digit number followed by the letter X – the X actually represents the number 10). The digits may (or may not) be separated by hypens (-).  When entering the number into the reference generator, please leave out the dashes and whites pace. If the back cover shows 0-965-064760 you can leave out the dashes and just enter 0965064760 as the ISBN number. If the last number is the letter X please do enter it as it is.

For books published after 2007, a 13 digit ISBN number is used. You will usually find this number just below the barcode. If the 13 ISBN number begins with 978, it will also have a corresponding 10 digit ISBN – in such cases you can enter either the 13 digit or 10 digit number. For example The Tibetan Book of the Dead has a 13 digit ISBN or 9780695064767 and it’s 0965064760

What if the back cover is torn or missing? Simply enter the Title of the book and we will still be able to generate the reference for you.
